Belém serves as the capital and largest city of the state of Pará in northern Brazil. Situated approximately 100 kilometers upriver from the Atlantic Ocean on the Pará River, it acts as a primary gateway to the Amazon River system. The municipality is separated from the main Amazon delta by Ilha de Marajó and includes islands such as Mosqueiro and Caratateua.
