Itaperuna is a municipality in the northwestern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Located near the borders with Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, it is an important regional centre for commerce, healthcare, education and services. The city developed along the Muriaé River, which passes through the urban area and forms an important feature of the local landscape.
