Pori is a coastal city in Finland and serves as the regional capital of Satakunta. It sits on the west coast of the country, positioned on the estuary of the Kokemäki River approximately ten kilometres from the Gulf of Bothnia. The municipality covers an area of 2,062 square kilometres, including significant water bodies, and is situated near the geological uplift delta formed by post-glacial rebound.

The city was established on March 8, 1558, by Duke John, who later became King John III of Sweden, to create a new harbour as navigation on the Kokemäki River became difficult. It succeeded the medieval towns of Teljä and Ulvila. Pori has burned down nine times in its history, with major reconstructions following fires in 1571 and 1852, shaping its current urban layout designed by architect C. T. von Chiewitz.

The city features Neo-Renaissance buildings and red-bricked industrial facilities alongside the river. Notable sites include Kirjurinluoto, a recreation area on an island connected by bridges, and the Pori Theatre, the first Finnish-language theater in history. The coat of arms, confirmed in 1931, displays a bear motif derived from a 17th-century seal and the motto "God is our protector."

Pori is nationally known for its annual Jazz Festival in July and Yyteri's sandy beaches, which attract the most visitors of any beach in Finland during summer. The city also hosts the Porin Ässät ice hockey club and FC Jazz football club. Local culture includes the traditional street food known as porilainen, and the area preserves the story of the town's development through Pori National Urban Park.

Pori has a population of 83,010 as of 2025, making it the tenth most populous municipality in Finland. The region experiences a humid continental climate moderated by the Gulf of Bothnia, with winters that are shorter and warmer than in northern Finland. Access is provided via Pori Airport, the E8 highway, and coach connections from major cities like Helsinki and Turku.
