Florence, known in Italian as Firenze, serves as the capital and most populous city of the Tuscany region in Italy. It also functions as the capital of the eponymous metropolitan province. Geographically, the city is situated approximately 275 kilometres northwest of Rome within the fertile valley of the Arno River.
