Ibiza is a Mediterranean island in the Balearic Islands of Spain, located in the western Mediterranean Sea. The island is known for its varied coastline, clear waters, sandy beaches, rocky coves and inland countryside, combining popular resort areas with quieter rural landscapes and traditional villages.
The island's main urban centre is Ibiza Town, known locally as Eivissa. The historic old town, Dalt Vila, rises above the harbour and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Ibiza, Biodiversity and Culture. The fortified district contains historic streets, churches, museums and viewpoints overlooking the city, harbour and surrounding Mediterranean coastline.
Ibiza has developed an international reputation for its electronic music and nightlife scene, with clubs and music venues attracting visitors from around the world. Beyond its nightlife, the island offers a wide range of coastal and cultural environments, including beaches, marinas, fishing villages, agricultural areas and protected natural landscapes.
The island is also part of the Pityusic Islands, a group within the Balearic archipelago that includes neighbouring Formentera. Ibiza's Mediterranean climate, distinctive architecture, coastal scenery and combination of historic and contemporary attractions make it one of Spain's best-known island destinations.
