Avannaata is a municipality located in Greenland, established on 1 January 2018 from the bulk of the former Qaasuitsup municipality. It encompasses a vast area of 522,700 km2, making it one of the largest administrative regions in the country. The municipality is situated in the northern part of Greenland, with its name derived from the Danish word Norden, meaning 'The North'. It serves as a significant administrative unit for the region's governance and local services.

The creation of Avannaata marked a major reorganization of Greenlandic municipal boundaries, consolidating numerous settlements under a single administration. Prior to 2018, these areas were part of Qaasuitsup, which was itself formed from earlier mergers.
