Hermosillo serves as the capital and largest city of the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. It functions as the municipal seat of the Hermosillo municipality, which covers a land area exceeding 15,700 square kilometers and includes a coastline along the Gulf of California. The settlement originated in 1700 with the founding of mission villages including Nuestra Señora del Pópulo and la Santísima Trinidad del Pitic. It experiences a subtropical hot desert climate with summer temperatures reaching 52 °C, making it one of the hottest cities in Mexico.
