Hollywood is a city located in Broward County, Florida, within the United States. It serves as a suburb in the Miami metropolitan area and holds the distinction of being the third-largest city in Broward County. Geographically, it sits in southeastern Broward County, encompassing approximately five to six miles of Atlantic Ocean beachfront, which is briefly interrupted by a portion deeded to Dania Beach. The city covers an area of 30.8 square miles, with 11.23 percent of that land covered by water.

The city was founded in 1920 by Joseph Young, who arrived in South Florida to create a planned community he called Hollywood by the Sea. He purchased thousands of acres and envisioned a town with man-made lakes, infrastructure, and luxury amenities. Young was elected the first mayor in 1925 after spending millions on construction. The town quickly attracted northerners known as snowbirds and became an early example of planned communities during Florida's real-estate boom of the 1920s.

Young Circle, named after the founder, is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and bars. The city features Hollywood Beach, which has a broadwalk extending about 2.5 miles along the ocean, lined with restaurants, hotels, and attractions. Notable landmarks include the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, known for its guitar-shaped structure, and the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. The area also includes Kolb Nature Center in West Lake Park and various historic sites like the Florida Theatre.

Tourism is a significant draw, with guided tours along the Intracoastal Waterway allowing visitors to explore nature. Young Circle hosts a weekly Food-Truck Takeover offering diverse cuisines including Cuban, Venezuelan, and Jamaican food. The city has about 60 parks and seven golf courses. Cultural institutions include the Broward County Historical Commission and the Broward County Library System. The Seminole Tribe of Florida has its headquarters in Hollywood, contributing to the local cultural landscape.

The population was 153,067 as of 2020. Key employers include aerospace manufacturer HEICO and the Invicta Watch Group. The city has a tropical rainforest climate with long, hot, humid summers and short, warm, dry winters. Transportation access includes public trolleys on the beach broadwalk and proximity to Broward County International Airport. The area is served by Broward County Public Schools, which operate 32 public schools in the city.
