Bend is a city in Central Oregon and the seat of government of Deschutes County, United States. It sits to the east of the Cascade Range on the Deschutes River within the Oregon High Desert. The city is bordered by the Deschutes National Forest to the southwest and lies on the boundary of the Eastern Cascades Slopes and Foothills ecoregion. Its elevation is 3,623 feet above sea level.

The site was known by pioneers as a fordable crossing point where the river ran through a bend. An 1870s ranch popularized the name Farewell Bend, which the post office later shortened to Bend because the original name was already in use. Incorporated in 1905 as a logging town, it adopted a council-manager government in 1929 and became the county seat when Deschutes County formed in 1916.

The city features recreational attractions including breweries, an amphitheater, and Mt. Bachelor. It is one of three continental U.S. cities with an extinct volcano within its limits, featuring Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint. The Horse Lava Tube System borders the eastern edge, while Newberry National Volcanic Monument lies just south. Mirror Pond, a dammed reservoir created in 1910, remains a central geographic feature.

Bend serves as a major tourist destination for outdoor sports such as mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping, rock climbing, white-water rafting, skiing, paragliding, and golf. The area offers year-round activities, attracting visitors for both summer recreation and winter sports. The city also hosts cultural sites like an amphitheater and retains historical elements from its logging past.

As of 2020, the population was 99,178, making it Central Oregon's most populous city. The metropolitan statistical area totaled 247,493 in that census. Access is provided by U.S. Routes 20 and 97, Redmond Municipal Airport, and local bus services. The climate is cold semi-arid with an annual average snowfall of 21.6 inches and significant diurnal temperature variations during summer months.
