Mount Abu is a hill station located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, India, situated within the Aravali hills near the border with Gujarat. It forms a distinct rocky plateau measuring 22 kilometers long by 9 kilometers wide at an elevation of 1,220 meters. As the only hill station in Rajasthan, it serves as a popular retreat from the heat of the surrounding plains and neighboring regions.

The ancient name of the mountain is Arbuda, with the region historically referred to as Arbudaranya. Legend attributes its naming to a serpent named Arbuda that saved Nandi, Lord Shiva's bull. The area was conquered by Rao Lumba in 1311 CE, and later leased by the British government from the Maharaja of Sirohi for administrative use as a headquarters.

The landscape features rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and evergreen forests, earning it the description of an oasis in the desert. Key landmarks include the Dilwara Jain Temples, carved from white marble between the 11th and 13th centuries, and Achalgarh Fort, built in the 14th century. The site also contains numerous Hindu temples, including Adhar Devi Temple and Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of the Aravali range.

Mount Abu attracts visitors seeking spiritual learning and natural beauty, hosting the Brahma Kumaris headquarters which draws millions annually. The area is known for its Winter Festival and offers meditation techniques like Raja Yoga. The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1960, covers 290 square kilometers and encircles the town, providing habitat for sloth bears and other wildlife.

According to the 2011 Census, the population is 22,943, with a literacy rate of 81.15 percent. The nearest railhead is Abu Road, approximately 25 kilometers away in the lowlands, accessible via daily bus services from major cities. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with over 500 millimeters of rain monthly during monsoon months, making the post-monsoon period ideal for visitation.
