Los Cabos is a municipality situated at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula within the state of Baja California Sur. It encompasses the distinct towns of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, which serves as the municipal seat. These two communities are linked by a thirty-two-kilometer Resort Corridor along the coast. The area is geographically defined by the meeting of the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California, creating a unique landscape where desert terrain meets the sea.

The region remained remote and rural until the latter twentieth century, when the Mexican government initiated development in Cabo San Lucas for tourism purposes. This focus subsequently spread eastward to the municipal seat of San José del Cabo. Historical landmarks include the Estero de las Palmas de San José del Cabo Mission, founded in 1730, and the Santiago de las Coras mission established in 1721 by Ignacio María Napoli. These sites anchor the area's colonial heritage amidst its modern growth.

San José del Cabo retains a quiet historic center with cobblestone streets, adobe houses, and jacaranda trees surrounding an eighteenth-century church. The town has resisted large shopping malls, preserving its character through high-end art galleries and restaurants in nineteenth-century buildings. In contrast, Cabo San Lucas is more commercial, centered around its marina and entertainment district rather than a main plaza. Its symbol is the natural arch at Land's End, known as El Arco.

Tourism drives the local culture, with visitors drawn to sport fishing, resorts, and golf courses designed by notable architects. The area hosts the culinary event Ritmos, Colores y Sabores and celebrates traditional dances during feast days for Saint Joseph and Our Lady of the Pillar. Activities range from whale watching and snorkeling to dune-buggy rides. The gastronomy relies heavily on seafood, including marlin and tuna, alongside locally produced Damiana liquor.

The municipality had a population of 351,111 as of 2020. Tourism is the primary economic activity, attracting over two million visitors annually, with more than one million coming from the United States. Most arrive via Los Cabos airport, while the Cabo San Lucas marina accommodates cruise ships. The high season for tourism and fishing extends from October to May, supported by a climate that allows year-round outdoor activities and ecotourism opportunities.
