The population was recorded at 5,676,648 as of 2018, with estimates reaching 9.1 million by 2024 and over 17.4 million in the surrounding metropolitan region. The economy benefits from multinational corporations locating regional headquarters there, supported by an extensive expressway network and ten urban rail lines.
