Ko Pha-ngan, Surat Thani, Thailand

Ko Pha-ngan is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, located in the Surat Thani Province of southern Thailand. It is one of the islands in the Chumphon Archipelago, which comprises over 50 islands. The island has a total area of approximately 211 square kilometers.
Ko Pha-ngan is known for its natural beauty, featuring lush forests, waterfalls, and beaches. The island's terrain is mountainous, with the highest peak being approximately 500 meters above sea level. The island's beaches, such as Haad Yao and Haad Salad, are popular tourist destinations.
The island has a relatively small population, with most residents engaged in fishing and tourism-related activities. The local economy is largely driven by tourism, with many resorts, hotels, and guesthouses catering to visitors. Ko Pha-ngan is accessible by ferry from the mainland and nearby islands.
Ko Pha-ngan gained international attention in 2019 when it implemented a "sandbox" tourism model, allowing vaccinated tourists to visit the island without quarantine. This model was seen as a pilot project for Thailand's broader reopening to international tourism. The island continues to be a popular destination for travelers seeking a tropical island experience.
