The beach forms part of Barra da Lagoa, a coastal neighbourhood known for its sandy shoreline, Atlantic waters, fishing heritage and relaxed seaside atmosphere. Barra da Lagoa developed from a traditional fishing village and remains closely connected to the sea, with fishing boats, local homes, restaurants and accommodation surrounding the beach and nearby waterways. The area is also connected to the Lagoa da Conceição region by the Barra da Lagoa Channel, which flows between the lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. Florianópolis is the capital and second-largest city of the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. Founded in 1673 and originally known as Nossa Senhora do Desterro, the city was renamed Florianópolis in 1894 in honour of Brazilian president Floriano Peixoto. Its historic centre contains colonial-era architecture and cultural landmarks, while the island's eastern and northern coastlines are particularly associated with beaches, recreation and tourism.
