Kroměříž is a town located in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It sits on both banks of the Morava River, approximately twenty kilometres northwest of Zlín. The municipal territory extends into the Litenčice Hills and the Upper Morava Valley, with its highest point being Obora hill at 322 meters above sea level. The Haná River flows into the Morava on the town's northern outskirts.

The settlement was founded in the first half of the twelfth century and officially promoted to a town in 1290. It was owned by the bishops and archbishops of Olomouc, who significantly contributed to its development. The historic town centre with the castle complex is well preserved and protected as an urban monument reservation. The gardens and castle were added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 1998.

The town is best known for its Baroque Kroměříž Castle and its valuable gardens, which feature a polygonal tower as the main landmark. The Church of Saint Maurice retains its early Gothic appearance, while the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in the late Baroque style. The castle interior was used to film scenes from Amadeus and other productions, highlighting its architectural significance.

Kroměříž lies in the ethnographic region of Haná and has earned the nickname Athens of Haná for its rich cultural life. It hosts an international festival of military brass music and the sacred music festival FORFEST. The Castle Gallery holds a collection of about five hundred paintings, including works by Titian. The town also features the Kroměříž Region Museum and an exposition on Karel Kryl.

The population is 27,917 as of 2025. The economy includes the Agricultural Research Institute and two major hospitals. Transport access is provided by the D1 motorway and railway lines connecting to Brno and Ostrava. The town is home to the football club SK Hanácká Slavia Kroměříž, which plays in the Czech National Football League from the 2025–26 season.
