Si Racha is a subdistrict and town located in Thailand on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Situated approximately 120 kilometers southeast of Bangkok within Si Racha district, Chonburi province, it serves as the administrative center of its district. The area forms part of the industrial Eastern Seaboard zone alongside Pattaya, Laem Chabang, and Chonburi, while also contributing to the larger Pattaya-Chonburi Metropolitan Area conurbation.
Historically, the town was part of Bang Lamung district until Field Marshal Chao Phraya Surasak Montri established a sawmill there in 1900. In 1903, he requested the district capital be moved to Si Racha from Bang Phra, which retained its name until becoming Si Racha district in 1917. The municipality was initially created as a subdistrict municipality in 1945 before being upgraded to a town municipality in 1995.
The town is defined by its industrial character and waterfront developments, though it lacks extensive sandy beaches. Notable landmarks include the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, a sanctuary housing over 8,000 animals across 5,000 rai, and the Sriracha Tiger Zoo with up to 400 Bengal tigers. The area also features the Thai-Japanese Association School Sriracha, reflecting its significant expatriate community of Japanese and Korean workers.
Si Racha is globally recognized as the birthplace of the popular hot sauce named after the town. Local culture is highlighted by the Ancestral Spirits Ceremony Festival held annually in April on Ko Loy Sri Racha. The area is famous for its seafood, particularly dishes served with fiery nam prik si racha spicy sauce, attracting visitors to local establishments like Jay Nong’s Restaurant near the fishing pier.
The town has a population of 23,400 as of 2014. It benefits from modern transport links, including an eight-lane motorway connecting the eastern seaboard to Bangkok and U-Tapao International Airport, which offers direct flights bypassing Bangkok. While older roads through downtown can be congested, the area remains a gateway to Ko Si Chang and nearby seaside resorts like Bang Saen.
