Sheboygan is a city in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States, serving as the county seat. It sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Sheboygan River, approximately fifty miles north of Milwaukee and sixty-four miles south of Green Bay. The municipality occupies a total area of 15.83 square miles, with the vast majority being land and a small fraction comprising water bodies within its boundaries.

Before European settlement, the area was home to Native American tribes including the Potawatomi, Chippewa, Ottawa, Winnebago, and Menominee. The land was ceded in the 1831 Treaty of Washington, leading to settlement by migrants from New York, Michigan, and New England in the 1830s. Although officially incorporated in 1846, the town had been platted in 1836, with lumbering serving as its first major industry before later waves of German and other European immigrants shaped its demographic landscape.

The city features diverse historic neighborhoods, including Laibach, settled by Slovenian immigrants, and the lakefront Deland Park. Notable landmarks include the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, which preserves artist-built environments, and the Sheboygan Hmong Memorial honoring contributions to the Secret War in Laos. The harbor contains the wreckage of the schooner Lottie Cooper, displayed as a unique Great Lakes exhibit, while the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary lies in the adjacent waters.

Sheboygan is known for its large ethnic German population and vibrant Hispanic and Hmong communities that influence its cultural landscape. Visitors are drawn to museums such as the Above & Beyond Children's Museum and the historic Stefanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts. The city also hosts the Chordettes, a 1950s group associated with the area, and offers scenic riverfront and lakefront developments that have helped establish it as a growing tourist destination.

The population was 49,929 at the 2020 census, with the metropolitan area holding 118,034 residents. The economy has shifted from shipping and fishing to prospering industry, supported by transport links via Interstate 43 and Greyhound terminals. Sheboygan experiences a warm-summer humid continental climate typical of Wisconsin, with temperatures moderated by its position on Lake Michigan despite vast seasonal differences.
