Zgornje Jezersko serves as a settlement and the administrative centre of the Municipality of Jezersko in northern Slovenia. It is situated within the traditional Slovenian Carinthia region and falls under the jurisdiction of the Upper Carniola Statistical Region. The location is defined by its position in a high valley, nestled between the Karawanks mountain range to the north and the Kamnik–Savinja Alps to the south.

The settlement's historical development is marked by early religious structures that reflect its long-standing presence in the area. The older of two churches dedicated to Saint Oswald, which functions as a chapel of ease above the village, was constructed around 1320. This medieval foundation predates the larger nineteenth-century church located on the northern outskirts of the main settlement, illustrating the evolution of local infrastructure over centuries.

Geographical features define the character of Zgornje Jezersko, with the Jezernica Creek flowing through the area as a tributary of the Kokra River. The territory includes Lake Planšar, the Ravne Cirque, and the Makek Cirque, alongside Mount Kočna, which rises to 2,540 meters.
